Beiersdorf Says First Quarter Profits Up Despite Flat Sales

Consumer goods maker Beiersdorf AG, Hamburg, Germany, posted higher first quarter profits, although sales remained flat due to currency effects. Beiersdorf, owner of the Nivea brand, had first quarter sales of EUR1.19 billion, unchanged from a year earlier. At constant exchange rates, sales rose 7.4%, the company said.Earnings per share rose to EUR0.96 from EUR0.95 in the first quarter of 2002, the company said.
